in Fifth Grade

During Fifth Grade, students
will:
• Identify Italian terminology for tempo, including largo, adagio,
andante, allegro, presto, accelerando, and ritardando
• Perform music by responding to Italian dynamic markings learned in 
fourth grade, as well as mezzo
piano and mezzo forte
• Perform and create formal notation that includes combinations of
sixteenth and eighth notes, as well as all other previously learned
notes and rests
• Perform conducting patterns in 2, 3, and 4 meter
• Visually and aurally identify the following intervals: half step,
whole step, major third, and perfect fourth
• Sing and play minor and pentatonic scales
• Distinguish between the music of today and music of earlier periods by
exploring the following periods of music history: middle ages, baroque,
classical, romantic, and contemporary
• Identify characteristics of musical styles, including theme and
variations, symphony, and fugue
