in Fourth Grade

During Fourth Grade, students
will:
• Identify songs as fast, slow, or moderate
• Identify and perform Italian dynamic markings and symbols such as
pianissimo
(pp), piano (p), forte (f), and fortissimo (ff)
• Perform and create formal notation that includes the dotted quarter
note, as well as all other previously learned notes and rests
• Perform duple, triple, quadruple, and quintuple meters
• Identify the form of songs by listening for contrasting sections
• Identify melodic elements such as sharps, flats, key signatures,
octaves, perfect fifths, and major scales
• Identify characteristics of the four main voice parts, soprano, a lot,
tenor, and bass
• Perform harmony by singing rounds, descants, and countermelodies with
the class
• Experience music of Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and Indian cultures
• Identify characteristics of musical styles, including opera and
overture
