Prospect Mill Elementary School is the center of a vital and growing
community. Harford Technical High School and John Archer School border the
school’s ample and scenic grounds to the north. The school has enjoyed a variety
of beautification projects to keep it a focal point of the community.
Over the past 30 years, a strong sense of
community and school pride has long been the tradition at Prospect
Mill Elementary. Together, through a strong partnership, Prospect Mill
Elementary staff and parents are committed to providing a supportive
and academically rigorous program for all children. Valuable learning
opportunities are the result of our dedicated staff, an extensive
parent volunteer program, children who are ready to learn and a highly
involved Parent Teacher Association.
Our school improvement plan (SIP) targets
student achievement. Our School Improvement Team (SIT) is charged with
monitoring a variety of instructional programs to ensure student
learning. Major objectives in the SIP include continuous improvement
in reading, writing, and character education.
We are proud of our well-rounded program
that includes the PTA Reflections Program, 4th and 5th grade band,
orchestra and chorus program, four Destination Imagination teams, the
school-wide Patriot Program, and Panda Peacemaker Program. Each
spring, we host a school-wide art show when every one of our more than
880 students displays art.
With a passion for teaching and learning,
we expect continuous learning and success for all our students.

Community Involvement
Volunteer involvement is the foundation upon which our school
excels, with 80% of our parents belonging to the PTA. This group
holds various fundraisers to support field trips, cultural events,
and periodicals for the children. Our Parent Advisory Committee
represents the geographic subdivisions of our school population.
More than 70% of our families volunteer.
The "Jobs Squad Program" for fourth and fifth graders provides an
opportunity for the children to experience volunteerism. Community
agencies, such as the Parks and Recreation Council, the Girl Scouts,
the Boy Scouts, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and the YMCA, use the
school facility to implement their programs. The Boy Scouts and the
Chesapeake Bay Foundation provided PMES with an environmental
center.
